Description: An Elegant Home, built in 1859, fully restored to its Victorian Splendor. Located in historic Huntsville, the Mount Vernon of Texas, home of Texas hero Sam Houston. The Whistler, a two-story, neoclassical wood frame residence, is one of the oldest homes in Walker County, and is situated on three acres of land just north of downtown Huntsville. The property is shaded by large pecan, cedar, carolina ash, crape myrtle and oak trees, some of which are older than the house itself. In fact, three of these trees (crape myrtle, cedar and carolina ash) have been designated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission as being the largest and oldest of their species in Walker County
