He orchestrated the notorious Chester Gillette Murder Trial of 1906, basis of author Theodore Dreiser's novel, An American Tragedy and the 1951 film A Place in the Sun starring Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, and Raymond Burr as George Ward.
