Description: THE MISSION INN, built in 1912 by Nelson Z. Graves after his turn of the century trip to the Pacific Coast. This Gatsby Era home with its stained glass windows, Flemish gable & latticed verandas all contribute to the cozy feeling of this al fresco house. Many stage and screen actors from Hollywood including: Tyrone Power, Erroll Flynn, Gloria Swanson, Diane Barrymore and Robert Preston have all lounged under the arched pergola and enjoyed the sun and stars as only Cape May can provide.
In homage to the California Spanish Missions of yesterday, each one of our eight bright and airy king size rooms, each with an in-room private bathroom, has been given the name of one of the 21 original Missions. The Mission Inn is the only example of California Spanish architecture in Cape May. The Inn has a 20'x30' Great Room with its 16 foot high barreled ceiling and a dramatic brick fireplace for lounging, original stained glass in the dining room, a west facing Solarium bathed in afternoon sunshine. The Solarium is a guest favorite for afternoon refreshments, relaxing with a good book or pleasant conversation with their newly found friends.
Guests are treated to a gourmet breakfast each morning. The breakfast includes fresh juices, fresh fruit i.e. coffee poached pears, baked stuffed apples or Jersey peaches, entrees of stuffed french toast, fresh egg omelettes, souffles, breakfast meats and hot or iced coffee or tea. Most days breakfast is served on the open air veranda, where guests linger over a fresh cup of coffee or tea as they watch and listen to the awaking of Cape May. Cape May enjoys the dual distinction of being a National Historic Landmark City and being America's Oldest Seashore Resort. The town sits at the southernmost tip of New Jersey where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Sea breezes abound. Acclaimed restaurants, spectacular architecture and broad, sunny beaches contribute to Cape May's allure.
