Description: Hello and welcome to The Jones House Bed & Breakfast. Nestled in the heart of historical downtown Nacogdoches and walking distance from antique shops, the Jones House offers a charming way to experience the grandeur of a bygone era. The First house located at 141 North Church Street was destroyed by a fire in 1894. It was purchased in 1887 by Henry Pratt Matthews of Houston (father-in-law to Roland Jones) He lived there with his wife Leila and daughter Lillie. Matthews was a railroad executive responsible for passenger service on the run from Chicago to New Orleans, perhaps for the Illinois Central. The Matthews and the Jones employed Diestrich Antone Gerard Rulf as architect and contractor to build the present stately Victorian mansion which was completed in 1897.The Roland Jones Family had a highly interesting background. Roland Jones came to Nacogdoches from Shreveport, LA in 1892. His Father, the Honorable Roland Jones, served a term in the US Congress from the Shreveport District. Roland Jones was the owner and president of the Nacogdoches Compress Company and established the first canning company in town. On February 14, 1893, Roland Jones married the Matthews daughter, Lillie Esme Matthews Boleyn, in the Christ Episcopal Church. They resided with the Mathews from the time of their marriage.Mrs. Jones delighted in entertaining with large and lavish parties. The large double living rooms and dining salons, off the large center hall, could be opened to provide room for dancing. The home was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1973. The Jones House was purchased and restored in 1999 by the late A. T. Mast, Jr. and wife, Patricia. It is owned and operated by the Mast family.
Other Amenities: The Jones Suite is furnished with a queen size four poster bed set in a room whose walls are covered with blue French toile wallpaper, and a private bath.The Jones Suite has a separate sitting room with antique furniture and a fireplace. It is perfect for newly weds or for those who want to celebrate their long cherished relationships.Genevieve's Room offers a cheerfully decorated with king sixe four poster bed, antique dressing table, antique armour, fireplace and private bath.
