Description: Built in 1846 by William Swales for his daughter Elizabeth as a wedding gift, this historic Cobblestone House was once on the Underground Railroad. Schooners sailed into Maxwell Bay to trade wheat for the flour that was made at the gristmill that still stands on the property since 1794. Maxwell Creek Inn is nestled on six acres surrounded by a woodland wildlife preserve and apple orchards on the south shore of Lake Ontario, halfway between Rochester and Syracuse. Peaceful and relaxing, this tranquil setting offers a piece of heaven on earth.
Tennis court, apple orchards, walking trails to the lake, outdoor grills and picnic tables are on the premises. The property boasts a quarter-mile of prime private shoreline fishing on the famous Maxwell Creek, also great for canoeing and kayaking. Accommodations include five spacious guest rooms in the main cobblestone house, including a honeymoon suite, and two efficiency suites in a private cobblestone carriage house that are popular with families and groups.
