Description: The Florida House Inn bed and breakfast, located on Amelia Island in the very heart of the Fernandina Beach Historic District, is Florida's oldest surviving hotel. Our pet friendly inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Since 1857, when the Florida Railroad opened the Florida House, a long list of special guests has sought the genteel hospitality of our inn. We have hosted such notables as Ulysses S. Grant, Cuban poet and freedom fighter Jose Marti, plus many film stars including Mary Pickford, and Laurel & Hardy. The list includes many visits by Rockefellers and Carnegies and other famous Americans.

During its 19th century heyday, the Florida beach bustled with commerce. Fortunes were made in shipping, lumber and the railroad. As you stroll the historic neighborhood that surrounds the Florida House, you'll be enchanted by the graceful homes and mansions of this era.

You'll also see the harbor which first lured swash-buckling parties to our island. Later, tourists seeking pleasure, not peril, arrived to our Florida beach aboard steamships. Our historic port also gave birth to the shrimp industry, which continues to thrive here today.

The pet friendly Florida House Inn offers you a charming escape to Amelia Island from a hectic, hurry –up world. Here the pace is as easy and relaxed or as active as you choose. Our accommodations are romantic and timeless, the service friendly and attentive. Regardless of the occasion - vacation, honeymoon, anniversary or getaway weekend – the Florida House will provide you with a most enjoyable experience.

Other Amenities: The shrimp docks and marina in Nassau County are just a three-minute walk from the inn. The marina offers charter fishing, boat rentals, and a chance to see dolphins manatees and sea turtles playing in the Amelia River. In the evening, magnificent sunsets silhouette the shrimp fleet as it returns with the day's catch.

The Atlantic Ocean and wide, spectacular beaches lie less than two miles to the east of the historic district. Your Florida vacation may include swimming, surfing, beachcombing, shelling and other favorite activities. While in Fernandina Beach Florida, you can visit Fort Clinch, a Civil War fort and State Park, complete with historic reenactments and monthly candlelight tours. The surrounding park has miles of nature trails, tree lined roads and a fishing pier.

And, of course, there's great golf and tennis just a few minutes drive from the inn. Our acclaimed resort island truly has something for everyone. We invite you to experience all of Fernandina Beach Florida.
